The Gifts of Vulnerability

I know what you’re thinking, “Melissa, Gifts and Vulnerability have no business being used together in the same sentence!” Well today on the podcast I hope I will change your mind about the role and importance of vulnerability in your life.

Though we all dread it, vulnerability is an essential part of human life, it brings us face to face with our shame and our fear of being lovable. I’m so excited to share with you some thoughts from the amazing Brene Brown about vulnerability, one of which is, “vulnerability is the core of all emotions and feelings. To feel is to be vulnerable.”

I’m also excited to share with you some thoughts on vulnerability as they are derived from the famous Harlow Monkey Experiment, one of my personal favorites that teaches about the need for and absolute importance of connection.

One of the most powerful beliefs we as humans have is that our vulnerabilities will keep us from being able to connect with other people. However, the great flaw with that line of thinking is that it is through vulnerability, and vulnerability only, that we connect authentically.

I’ll finish today’s episode by defining the three main blocks to our being vulnerable: Performing, Pretending & Perfecting. Along with this I’ll provide some in-depth solutions for each of these blocks, complete with experiences from my own life.

I hope you’ll join me today to discover how you can benefit from being vulnerable!
