Have you ever had that feeling of sitting across from someone and sharing something personal and knowing they get it? That they understand you? It’s the best feeling, that feeling of being known, seen, and understood. This is empathy in action. Empathy is the ability to connect with the emotions of a particular situation. It requires self-awareness of your own emotions in order to recognize the emotions in others.

Today’s podcast is focused on emotional literacy as the foundation of empathy, self-compassion, and shame resilience. These all combine to increase emotional intelligence, which makes us better parents, partners, and leaders.

Resilience is something we can all develop and is a function of empathy. If there’s anytime in life where we can all recognize the importance of resilience, it’s right now. We are in an unprecedented time, and for most, if not all of us, it has been a massive test of our ability to cope with, and overcome challenges.

Empathy and resilience are two powerful characteristics that help us weather challenges. Today I’ll be focusing on specific ways to cultivate these characteristics yourself and others. To help with this, I’ve created a free resource; Your Empathy Skill-Building Guide.
