Willpower, is it even a thing? If you’re like me, you’ve likely heard about harnessing willpower, but what does that even mean? 
Maybe you have had a goal that you really, really wanted to achieve. You set the goal and went about trying to accomplish it, but after a few weeks, days, and sometimes just hours, you settle back into your normal habits and stop making progress towards your goal. If this describes some of your previous efforts to accomplish a goal, don’t worry, you’re in good company. So what is the difference between setting a goal, and actually accomplishing it?
Well, the American Psychological Association asked this question of many Americans. Their answers consistently came back to the topic of willpower. If only they had more of that mysterious thing we call willpower, they could lose weight, get better sleep, get their dream job, and accomplish a million other goals.
So what does willpower entail? Am I not accomplishing my goals because I don’t want them enough? Well, today my focus is on helping you understand more specifically what willpower is, why it matters, and how you can develop more of it. It may not be as big of a secret as you think, but it will transform your life if you give it the room to.
